Normally people who were eating traditional food, got most of the essential nutrients from their
daily diet. But the modern time with its sweets, chips and all kind of fast food products, has
changed the habits. So watch what you are eating and look after that the daily menu is versatile.
This time I will handle edible oils. Maize oil, olive oil, sunflower oil and soy oil are the most common used oils in the kitchens all over the world. If I need to choose one oil and say this is the best considering the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids I need to take soy oil because of it has a high percentage of linoleic and linolenic acid. Sunflower and maize oil contains lot of linoleic but not so much linolenic acid. Many studies are proving the healthiness of olive oil although it has less fatty omega acids. I prefer use Spanish Virgen Extra cold pressed oil. The only treatment to produce it is mchanical, so it have all other important nutrients from the mature black olive fruit.
From the vegetable oils I jump to cod liver oil, which has helped the Scandinavians to survive the long and dark winter. It is very rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A and D. Many Nordic children take every day a table-spoonful of cod liver oil as an vitamin additive. There are two famous trade marks Icelandic LYSI and Norwegian Möller.
From the South America comes one interesting edible oil made from Inca Nuts (Plukenetia volubilis lin). The oil is called Sacha Inchi and it contains 48% omega-3, 36% omega-6 and 8% omega-9.
So start to use renewed oils to keep your organism going.
